Let’s start with the global picture. According to an in-depth new report in Wall Street Journal, not all is well with MBA placements, even at the top US B-school. The article stated:

  • For MBAs, landing a job in the U.S. has become increasingly challenging, even for Harvard Business School (HBS) graduates.
  • According to the report, 23% of HBS MBA graduates from the previous spring batch were still seeking employment three months after graduation. This HBS MBA unemployment rate is up from 20% the prior year and 10% in 2022.
  • Other top business schools, including Wharton, Stanford, and NYU Stern, also reported worse placement outcomes last year.
  • Employers like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have reduced MBA hiring, while consulting firms like McKinsey have also cut back on recruitment.
  • Harvard is introducing new tools and courses to assist students in bridging skills gaps and improving job search outcomes.
  • Despite challenges, majority of MBA graduates from elite schools secure well-paying jobs with median starting salaries around $175,000.

Based on the article, here is a summary of the unplaced student percentage for different B-schools:
